Human Resources Degree Program at Clark State College
The Human Resource Management Departmental Certificate at Clark State College is designed to equip individuals with the essential knowledge and skills necessary to work in the human resource field. This certificate program is available across multiple formats and locations, including the Beavercreek campus, fully Online, and the Springfield – Leffel Lane location.
Focusing on key functional areas, the curriculum ensures students can apply knowledge and skills in staffing, training and development, employment law, and compensation. The program also emphasizes the development of effective communications and human relations knowledge and skills, as well as the ability to research and apply human resource policies, practices, and programs. Students are expected to integrate information technology skills throughout their studies.
Curriculum Details
The certificate requires the completion of 30 credit hours. Due to necessary prerequisite requirements, the program will generally take more than one academic year to complete. Recommended course sequencing should be followed, considering pre/co requisites and college preparatory (CPE) needs. Sample courses include HRM 1725 Human Resource Management, HRM 2300 Training and Development, HRM 2350 Employment Law, HRM 2400 Staffing, and HRM 2450 Compensation and Benefits. Students may also take courses like ENG 1111 English I, ITS 1105 Computer Concepts and Software Applications, MGT 1060 Organizational Behavior, MGT 2000 Introduction to Project Management or MGT 2650 Negotiation Skills, and MTH 1060 Business Mathematics. Note that Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) Credit may be available for MTH 1060, and introductory computer courses (ITS 0700, ITS 0710) are recommended for students with limited computer/keyboarding skills.
A significant benefit of this departmental certificate is that all courses can be applied to the Human Resource Management Option of the associate degree in Management, providing a clear pathway for further education.
