The Human Resource program at James A. Rhodes State College is offered as part of the college’s Business Program, with the objective to provide quality, up-to-date education for individuals seeking to enter or advance their careers in the human resources field. The program primarily offers an Associate of Applied Business Degree in Human Resource, designed as a structured 4-semester plan requiring 60-61 credit hours for completion. A Human Resource Specialist Certificate is also available, requiring 19 credit hours with a grade of “C” or better in each course, and must be completed within four years.

A significant feature of the Associate Degree program is that it can be earned in a fully online format.

The Human Resource major provides the practical skills and theory needed for generalist roles within HR departments. Key areas of study include employee selection and placement, benefits, compensation, training, development, safety, labor relations, and human resource analytics. The curriculum includes core HR courses such as MGT 2000 Human Resource Management, MGT 2410 Employee Selection and Placement, MGT 2440 Training, Development and Safety, MGT 2060 Employee and Labor Relations, MGT 2435 Benefits and Compensation, and MGT 2500 Human Resource Analytics and Strategic Management. The program incorporates a practical Field Experience (Internship), listed as BUS 2901.

Upon completion, students will have developed knowledge of best practices in key HR functions, the ability to generate data-driven decisions, critical thinking, professional communication skills, proficiency in relevant software platforms, and an understanding of ethical and professional behavior. The degree also provides a foundation for individuals planning to pursue professional certifications like the aPHR or PHR offered by the HR Certification Institute.

The Associate of Applied Business Degree in Human Resource is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).
