Human Resources Degree Program at Baldwin Wallace University
Baldwin Wallace University’s Human Resource Management program, housed within the Carmel Boyer School of Business, prepares students for an ever-changing field encompassing communication, law and regulations, organizational strategy, and business operations. The curriculum is designed to help organizations succeed in a dynamic, global marketplace.
Students have several program options. The traditional route leads to a Bachelor’s degree. An accelerated 3/2 program allows students to earn both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in five years. Application for the 3/2 program occurs in the second semester of the junior year, with tuition remaining at the full-time undergraduate day rate throughout the five years. This option develops critical managerial and leadership skills.
Additionally, a Certificate Program in Human Resource Management is offered, covering HR essentials for individuals seeking credentials, including career changers, those without a degree, or experienced business professionals looking to enter HR.
The comprehensive and rigorous curriculum covers key management principles and techniques pertinent to recruitment and retention, compensation and benefits, and labor relations and employment law. The curriculum’s design is approved for credit by the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) and aligns with Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) professional guidelines. The 3/2 MBA program is also a recognized graduate degree program by SHRM.
Learning takes place with professors who have decades of national and international experience. Small class sizes and an 11:1 student-to-faculty ratio facilitate close mentoring. Experiential learning is a key part of the program, bridging classroom study with real-world opportunities. This includes internships made accessible by the university’s proximity to Cleveland, as well as fellowships, study abroad, and co-curricular activities. Students can also engage with the active BW chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), which provides networking and professional development opportunities.
Baldwin Wallace reports strong outcomes for its graduates, with 92% of the human resource management class of 2017 reporting being in rewarding jobs or in graduate school within six months of graduation. Detailed course descriptions and requirements can be found in the University Catalog.
