Human Resources Degree Program at Harford Community College

The Human Resources, Business Management Certificate program at Harford Community College is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed for the challenging field of Human Resources. This program awards a Certificate in Business Management upon successful completion of 24 credits.

A significant advantage of this certificate is that students can combine the credits earned to complete an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Business Management, aligning with their individual career goals.

Upon completing the program, students will be able to detail laws governing hiring, promotion, and training, identify management theories and their impact, and apply systematic approaches to improving individual and organizational performance. A key learning outcome is the ability to develop and use metrics to align human resource goals, budgets, and outcomes with the organizational mission.

According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, the program prepares students for a human resources career by providing comprehensive knowledge for today’s rapidly changing business environment, with projected employment growth for related occupations.

Certificate requirements include demonstrating basic competencies in English, reading, and mathematics by completing ENG 018 Integrated Reading and Writing, MATH 020 Pre-Algebra I, and/or passing a qualifying exam.

The required courses for the certificate include: BA 101 Introduction to Business (GI), BA 108 Human Resource Management, BA 115 Employee Relations, BA 116 Employee Training and Development, BA 117 Strategic Human Capital Management, BA 246 Legal Environment of Business or BA 205 Business Law, BA 109 Principles of Management, and BA 245 Contemporary Issues in Business, totaling 24 credits.
