Human Resources Degree Program at Sacred Heart University

Sacred Heart University’s Master of Science in Human Resource Management (MSHRM) program is designed to develop professionals with the advanced quantitative skills and real-world knowledge needed to contribute strategically at the highest levels of an organization. The program emphasizes the evolving role of HR leaders as tightly integrated business partners, equipping students with data-driven decision-making abilities for high-impact contributions.

Important Note: As of Spring 2025, the MS in Human Resource Management program is being taught out and is no longer accepting new applications. Prospective students interested in this field are encouraged to explore Sacred Heart’s MBA with a concentration in Strategic Human Resource Management.

The MSHRM is a 30-credit program offered on a trimester schedule with evening courses. It utilizes a 100% online synchronous delivery model for flexibility, while also offering accommodations for local students who wish to meet in groups on campus. The program is available for both full-time and part-time study, with start terms in the fall or spring. It is suitable for advancing human resource professionals, business managers moving into the HR field, and recent graduates with relevant undergraduate degrees.

The curriculum covers a range of topics including **performance management, talent management, HR analytics, HR law, and diversity and inclusion**, preparing students to manage people and processes within rapidly changing global landscapes. Students use metrics and finance to develop critical thinking and creativity. A required **capstone/applied research project** allows students to apply their studies to the field.

Unique program features include a **student cohort model** for support and networking, instruction from **distinguished faculty** with advanced knowledge and experience, and guest lectures from **senior-level HR executives**. The program is part of the **AACSB International-accredited Jack Welch College of Business & Technology** and is one of only 313 programs worldwide that fully aligns with **SHRM’s HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates**. Students have the opportunity to join the **SHRM SHU Student Chapter** and access resources like certification study groups and seminars.

Graduates are prepared for various HR roles, including those in training and development, recruitment, compensation, and organizational development. SHU graduates have been hired by prominent organizations such as Nestle Waters, PepsiCo, CNBC, and more. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual salary for Human Resource Management professionals is $130,000.

Sacred Heart University also offers a **graduate certificate in human resource management**, providing advanced training. Most credits from this certificate program can be applied toward the master’s degree with program director approval.
