Human Resources Degree Program at Eastern Mennonite University

Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) offers a Master of Arts (MA) in Human Resources program. Launched in August 2022, this program is designed for working professionals looking to transition into an HR career track or for current HR professionals seeking to enhance their leadership effectiveness. The program emphasizes organizational leadership for change, resilience, and empowerment, combining foundational HR skills with a unique focus on the wellbeing and thriving of employees.

This is a 30-hour degree program delivered through evening online synchronous courses, allowing working students flexibility. The program is structured to be completed in 21 months.

The curriculum explores philosophical foundations and core competencies of leadership, aiming to develop a distinctive leadership style that supports employee, organizational, societal, and ecological well-being. Courses mentioned include: Human Resources and the Employee Experience, Strategic Talent Management, Compensation and Benefits: Total Rewards, Labor Law, Compliance and Risk Management, Learning and Development, Change Leadership and Facilitation for Resilience, HR Analytics and Evaluation, Human Resource Leadership, Intro to Leadership Theory, and Organizational Behavior. Note that the “Organizational Behavior” course is pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

The program integrates unique interdisciplinary areas like trauma awareness, resilience, and restorative practices into the HR skillset. Andrew Miller is noted as the Director of EMU’s Department of Business and Leadership graduate programs.
