Human Resources Degree Program at University of Massachusetts-Amherst

The University of Massachusetts Amherst, through its Isenberg School of Management, offers an Undergraduate Certificate in Human Resource Management. This certificate program is designed for individuals interested in pursuing a career in human resource management or needing to strengthen their background in the field, potentially to meet advancement requirements for HR staff.

The program consists of five required online courses and can generally be completed within one year. Coursework covers essential HR functions, including Principles of Management, Human Resource Management, Organizational Behavior, Compensation Administration, and Workforce Planning, Recruitment and Selection.

Admission to the certificate program is on a rolling basis. Successful applicants typically have completed 24 credits of college-level coursework or possess at least 2 years of relevant work experience. Applications are accepted for the next applicable semester (Fall, Spring, or Summer). The program is not intended for students currently earning their undergraduate degree from Isenberg.

Tuition for online courses is charged per credit and varies based on the specific course and program. Exact costs can be found in the Restrictions/Notes section for the class in Spire. Importantly, online course tuition is the same for in-state and out-of-state students. As this is not a degree-granting program, students are generally not eligible for federal financial aid, but may explore alternative loan options. More information on non-degree student financial options is available at http://www.umass.edu/umfa/non-degree.

All certificate courses must be taken through UMass Amherst; transfer courses are not accepted. Courses must be taken for a grade, requiring a minimum final grade of C or better for each course, and an overall GPA of 2.0 for the certificate with no more than one course below 2.0. If a student is later accepted into a UMass Amherst bachelor degree program, the certificate courses may be used towards it. Billing is handled directly by the University Bursar’s Office and sent via UMass email, viewable and payable online via SPIRE or by mail.
