Human Resources Degree Program at American University

American University offers an online Master of Science in Human Resource Analytics and Management (MSHRAM) degree. This program was developed based on industry needs and is approved and aligned with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) graduate education guidelines. It focuses on empowering students to be fluent in analytics, emergent HR technologies, and complex HR concepts, allowing them to use technology and data to improve employees’ lives and meet organizational goals through evidence-based decision-making.

The program is structured around 30 Credit Hours, comprising 10 Total Classes, designed for completion in 20 Months at a full-time pace (taking two courses per semester). The cost is $1,485 per Credit. Program start dates are available in Spring (January), Summer (May), and Fall (August), with the Spring 2025 term specifically listed as starting on January 6.

The curriculum provides advanced training on applying technology to HR processes such as talent acquisition and performance management, monitoring employee engagement, and enhancing business decisions through metrics and critical evaluation. It is geared towards long-term career success, building proven skills in communication, teamwork, ethical decision-making, innovation, and evaluating/using emerging technologies. The program is taught by experienced, prestigious faculty who are practitioners and scholars, providing expertise and mentoring.

Admission requires an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. Applicants must submit a completed application, statement of purpose, official transcripts, two letters of recommendation, and a $55 Application Fee (typically waived if the application file is complete within three weeks). The GRE is not required, but students with a GPA below 3.0 are encouraged to take it (LSAT scores are also accepted). International applicants have additional requirements, including language proficiency tests (TOEFL, Pearson Test of English, or IELTS) and international transcript evaluation; for acceptable evaluators, refer to NACES.org. Up to six graduate transfer credits may be accepted if approved.

The MSHRAM program prepares graduates for advanced HR leadership roles by providing in-demand skills in HR technologies, analytics, design thinking, and company culture. American University’s Career Center services are available to online students and alumni, offering support for job search, career advising, internships, and access to tools like the AU Career Web. The program culminates in a capstone project allowing students to work with a client on an area of interest, mentored by a faculty member.

American University is dedicated to supporting military service members, veterans, and their families. Online MSHRAM students may be eligible for military education benefits including the Post-9/11 GI Bill®, Montgomery GI Bill® (MGIB), Tuition Assistance (TA), and Yellow Ribbon Program. An application fee waiver is available for eligible veterans, and military transfer credits may be accepted. More information about VA education benefits is available at the official U.S. government website: Education and Training Home (va.gov).

The MSHRAM is an exclusive online program. For those interested in a shorter option, an online Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Analytics and Management is available, consisting of 4 courses (12 credits), which can later be applied towards the full Master’s degree.
