Human Resources Degree Program at Boise State University
Boise State University’s Department of Management offers a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) major in Human Resource Management, designed to provide students with a solid foundation in the essential functions of HR within a business context.
The program focuses on core strategic areas including strategic management, workforce planning, human resource development, compensation and benefits, employee and labor relations, and risk management. It is structured to align with the minimum standards for human resource degrees set by the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM).
A notable addition to the curriculum is the new course, HRM410 People Analytics. This course introduces students to workforce analytics, teaching them to interpret and analyze people data using evidence-based HRM practices and analytical techniques. It emphasizes a hands-on approach to applying human capital measurement, metrics, and predictive analytic tools. HRM410 is included in the HR Major (FA23 catalog), the Business Analytics Certificate (FA24 catalog), and can be used as an elective.
For students seeking less extensive study, a Human Resource Management minor is also available, requiring 18 credits of upper-division coursework in HR, Management, and other College of Business and Economics upper-division courses.
Financial assistance opportunities exist, as the Human Resource Management BBA program qualifies for the Idaho LAUNCH grant. This grant provides eligible Idaho students a one-time scholarship covering 80% of tuition and fees for select in-demand programs, up to a maximum of $8,000.
Students can engage with the HR field outside the classroom through the Human Resource Association (HRA), a student organization focused on HR with opportunities for mentoring, networking, and gaining practical experience. The HRA is recognized as a Merit Award winner through the National Society for HR Management (SHRM). Scholarships are also specifically available through the Department of Management and the Human Resources Association of Treasure Valley.
Advising support is readily available through COBE Advising Services to assist students with degree decisions, major selection, course planning, and semester schedules.
Official program requirements, course descriptions, and admission standards are published on the Undergraduate Catalog site. The Department of Management can be contacted at management@boisestate.edu or (208) 426-1313 and is located in the Micron Business and Economics Building, Room 2103.
