Human Resources Degree Program at California State University-Northridge

The Minor in Human Resource and Talent Management at California State University, Northridge (CSUN), offered through the Department of Management within the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics, is designed to allow students from any major to pursue a secondary interest in the field of human resource and talent management. This minor is open to all students enrolled at the university, including those who are already majoring in Management.

Successful completion of the minor requires a total of 18 units. These units are comprised of two components: 15 units of required courses that form the core curriculum in human resources, and 3 units selected from an approved list of elective courses.

The **15 required units** cover fundamental aspects of HR and organizational behavior. The specific courses include: MGT 360 Management and Organizational Behavior (3 units), MGT 380 Introduction to Human Resource Management (3 units), MGT 440 Personnel Selection, Assessment, and Evaluation (3 units) or PSY 356 Industrial and Organizational Psychology (3 units), MGT 450 Organization Change and Development (3 units), and MGT 460 Strategic Human Resource Management (3 units).

For the **3 elective units**, students must choose one course from a varied list of options provided from departments across the university. Examples of elective areas include Labor and Employment Law (**BLAW 485**), various Communications courses (**COMS 356, 452, 453**), Labor Economics (**ECON 421**), Health Administration (**HSCI 312, 413**), Psychology (**PSY 345, 369**), Recreation and Human Services Management (**RTM 302, 306**), and Sociology (**SOC 325, 340, 400**).

Regarding prerequisites, non-business majors are not required to fulfill the usual **BUS 312** and **BUS 302L** prerequisites for courses within the minor. However, it is mandatory for all students pursuing the minor to successfully pass **MGT 360** before they can take any other courses included in the minor. Students should also note that some elective courses may have additional prerequisites separate from the minor’s requirements.
